AĀ signet ringĀ can be represented by a smooth or engraved seal, or with anĀ intaglio, which is created by carving into the surface of a stone. Its purpose would have been to seal the wax of a letter or note.
A beautifulĀ intaglio signet ringĀ from the Edwardian (ca1910) era! Crafted in 14k yellow gold, the ring has an oval-shaped carnelian intaglio held in the center. The carved image is very artistic and depicts the side profile of a young man adorned with a laurel wreath. The carnelian stone is held within a decorative scalloped bezel setting. The shoulders of the ring are represented by two, identical nude men who may represent the Titan, Atlas. The men's torsos feature intricate carvings to depict abdominal muscles, and their faces feature a simple, relaxed expression. A truly unique piece, this ring would make a fantastic addition to any collection!
Measurements:Ā The ring has a large finger size of 4.75, but could be resized if necessary. The center measures 5/8" tall and 1/2" wide.
Condition:Ā The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or to the carnelian intaglio, which is intact.
