The Story

"Pinchbeck" is a form of brass, mixed in proportions so that it closely resembles gold in appearance. It was invented in the 18th century by Christopher Pinchbeck, a London clockmaker. The development of pinchbeck allowed ordinary people to buy jewelry that had look of gold.ย

A beautiful fob/pendant from the Victorian (ca1880s) era! Crafted in pinchbeck, this piece begins with an ornate topper, which is comprised of scrolling wirework, and 2, discreet crown-motifs. The top of the piece features an open ring, which would allow the wearer to easily attach the fob to a chain. The base of the fob features a prong-set chalcedony stone, which displays a vibrant, luscious green hue! The chalcedony fob is carved with a unique intaglio, which depicts a full-rigged ship gliding along the ocean. A phenomenal piece with a rich history, this fob/pendant would make a unique addition to any Victorian-era jewelry collection!

Measurements:ย The fob/pendant has a height of 1 1/16" (including the complimentary bail). The base of the piece has a width of 3/4" and a height of 5/8".

Condition:ย The fob/pendant is in overall excellent condition. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the pinchbeck setting, and the chalcedony stone is intact and free from any chips or cracks. The complimentary bail is intact and in working order.
