The Story

Tiger claw jewelry became popular during the British colonization of India during the Victorian period. This period was known as the British Raj (Hindi for 'rule'). The pieces were produced to appeal to the British travelers as souvenirs with an Indian flare. This craft is now banned which makes the older pieces very collectible.

This particular tiger claw pendant from the Victorian Raj (ca1870s) era is simply marvelous! The pendant is comprised of a single authentic tiger claw, which exhibits some natural lines that create a marbled look. The claw is set in an ornate 18k yellow gold encasement, complete with highly-intricate scrolling wirework detailing. The top of the piece features a complimentary bail, which would allow the pendant to easily attach to a gold chain. A unique piece, this pendant would make a phenomenal addition to any antique jewelry collection!

Measurements: The pendant hangs 13/8" long (including the complimentary bail), and has a width of 5/8" at its widest point.

Condition: The overall condition of the pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or to the tiger claw. The bail is secure and in good working condition.
