Prolific jewelry designer Ilias Lalaounis was born in Athens, Greece in 1920. Descending from a family of goldsmiths, he apprenticed under his uncle's jewelry firm to become a master craftsman. In 1941 he took over the family business, and later developed a vision for his signature style during the 1950s. Inspired by his passion for prehistoric motifs, artifacts, and Greek mythology, he studied traditional methods of artistry, branching out on his own in the 1960s to form his own company. In the decades that followed, his work blossomed into a myriad of fine jewelry collections that earned widespread appeal and designer status. Adored by celebrities and the fashion elite, designs by LALAOUNIS remain in high demand among collectors and jewelry lovers in modern times!
A striking Lalounis snake ring! Crafted in 18k yellow gold, the front of this ring depicts the head of a serpent! The eyes of the snake are represented by bezel-set round cut sapphires, which display a deep, luscious blue hue. Each nostril of the snake also features a small, bezel-set round cut ruby. Interestingly, the neck of the snake splits into 2, distinct curling torsos. Each torso is further decorated with a bezel-set emerald, which are wrapped tightly between the 2 tails. The head and torsos of the snake are decorated with a twisting-rope texture. The shoulders of the ring feature a three-dimensional ball-motif design, and the remainder of the band is smooth and simple. The backside of the snake's head features the Lalaounis signature and 2 hallmarks, and a "750" purity mark. A uniquely bold piece, this ring would make a lovey addition to any Estate-era jewelry collection!
Measurements: The ring is currently a size 6.75, but could easily be resized. The band has a width of 2.75mm. The snake centerpiece has a height of 1 1/16" and a width of 1".
