The Story

A simply wonderful French paste and chrysoberyl bug pin from the late Victorian (ca1900) era! The piece, which depicts a large winged bug, is crafted in sterling silver and has a body portrayed by an oval shaped cat's eye chrysoberyl stone. The bug has wide open wings that are encrusted with closed back French paste stones and ornate, curled antennae sprout out of the top of the head, also displaying paste stones. Two small cabochon rubies represent the eyes and an additional larger, paste stone is set on its back. Four bent legs peek out from the underside of the bug and the original c-catch clasp can be found on the back. The pin has a wonderful 3-dimensional look with beautiful detail throughout and the lovely piece would makeĀ a perfect addition to any collection!

Measurements:Ā The pin measures approximately 1 1/2" wide, 7/8" tall and a little more than 1/4" in depth.

Condition:Ā The overall condition of theĀ pin is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling silver setting or to the large cat's eye chrysoberyl stone. All of the French paste stones and rubies are intact and the pin clasp is secure and in good working condition.
