A beautiful onyx and pearl locket pendant from the Victorian (ca1880s) era! This impressive piece is carved from a solid piece of onyx and quite substantial in size. The stone is smoothly polished for a glossy, rich black finish and adorning the center is cross which is crafted in 10kt rose gold, and riveted into the face. Delicate natural seed pearls line the surface of the cross, adding a sentimental appeal, and found on the reverse side of the piece is a glass window set within a 10kt rose gold frame. The glass face reveals the original hair memoriam, however, this could easily be removed and replaced if desired. The piece hangs from a large fluted rose gold bail at the top, and would look wonderful paired with a complimentary chain. A fantastic Victorian locket, it would make a wonderful keepsake piece!
Measurements: The locket pendant hangs approximately 2 3/4" long (including the bail at the top). The oval-shaped onyx plaque measures approximately 1 7/8" tall, 1 5/8" wide, and 1/2" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the carved onyx plaque, which is free of chips or scratches. The gold bail and locket frame are secure, and the glass window is intact. All of the seed pearls are intact and securely set.
